Variety for saree shops and resellers

Saree shop owners and resellers tell us the same thing: their customers ask for something new every time they visit, and with so much competition, the shop with more variety wins. Malaa is built for that. Sarees range from about ₹200 to ₹2,000, new designs arrive every week, and because Malaa makes its own designs, they are not available in other Surat shops. The range changes with the season: festive and Diwali designs now, wedding season designs after that.

Retailers and wholesalers from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have bought from the family business regularly, every week, fortnight or month, many of them for 10 to 15 years.

The website shows only part of the range, and popular designs sell out quickly. First-time buyers are encouraged to visit the shop in Surat Textile Market once, to see the full variety and touch the fabric. There is no obligation to buy.

What Malaa does

Malaa is a B2B saree brand. Instead of sending a shop owner hundreds of catalogues, Malaa asks about the shop: its city, its customers, the price range it sells at, the occasion and the quantity needed. Then it suggests catalogues that may fit, shows them on a live video call if needed, and ships them across India.

Malaa sells complete catalogues only. A catalogue is a set of usually 6 sarees, often one design in several colours. Buyers can combine as many catalogues as they need. Single sarees are not sold, which keeps the rate at wholesale level.

Own manufacturing in Surat

Since about 2025, Malaa has made sarees in its own designs. The process:

  1. Buy grey (unprocessed) fabric.
  2. Mills print and process the fabric in Malaa's designs.
  3. Cut each saree to 6.3 metres.
  4. Add zari, border, lace or embroidery work.
  5. Finish and check every saree.
  6. Shoot catalogue photos in-house.
  7. Pack and sell wholesale.

Founder

Malaa was founded by Prakhar, an engineer with a master's degree from IIT Bombay. He had a good job offer but chose the family saree business, because he saw a large gap: food, medicine and spectacles are now ordered online with smart recommendations, while saree wholesale still runs on long trips to Surat, hundreds of catalogues and guesswork. Malaa's goal is to use technology to make buying easier for saree shop owners and sellers in India and beyond.

Prakhar's family has run the saree business Jay Ambey Silk Mills in Surat Textile Market since 1998, supplying retailers in Gujarat, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Malaa is built on that experience and network.

Who buys from Malaa

  • Saree shops and retailers who restock regularly and want new designs every week.
  • Boutiques that need a small number of good catalogues rather than large stock.
  • Resellers who sell from home, on WhatsApp or on Instagram. They receive photos and videos of each catalogue to share with customers.
  • Wedding families and bulk buyers who need about 20 to 200+ sarees for a wedding, function or return gifts.
